“is fada an bóthar nach mbíonn casadh ann.”i. “the ancient king”
Meet Ríoghnán Cían Ó Duibhir, often simply known as Rí – a headstrong, intelligent young man whose heart has turned cold. A half-blood (half wizard, half Otherworldly faerie) with a fortress of strengths, his seventh-year Ravenclaw prefect status means that he has the steadfast respect of all who belong to his noble house.
His experiences, history, and background have fed a sense of determined bitterness. His friends are few, but close. Many of the people he knows are simply acquaintances. The relationships he shares with the ones he loves are intense and caring, and he is one of the most loyal friends that one will ever encounter and make.
His friends are few merely because his personality takes some getting used to. He is a young man of dichotomies – romantic yet also hateful of men; patient yet short-tempered; bitter yet caring. His sense of humour is dark and dry, yet his quips are light-hearted. He enjoys nights alone as much as he enjoys underground, hidden clubbing in places that border between the Otherworld and the wizarding realm, where the intertwined magic in his veins is at its strongest, and where he feels most passionate and energised.
His one weakness, despite the positivity of the relationships he shares with those close to him, is men. And despite all of the positives in his life, and all the self-inflicted vows of deliberate celibacy, in his heart of hearts he still hopes for his own Mr. Darcy ... [want to know more?]
[/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] ii. friends & acquaintances
[you here too?]
Rí attracts people as friends who happen to either be scarily similar to him in personality (calm, humorous, intelligent, and/or bitter), or the complete opposite to balance him our (frenzied, serious, ditzy, and/or light-hearted). His group of friends are an eclectic mix, because going through life at Hogwarts with a mundane set of mates is just never on. Dare to take him on?
NB: Seventh-years are especially welcome in this bunch. Make it happen.
[/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] iii. enemies & foes
[you here?]
Rí despises the Slytherin house with a great passion. He may be bitter and subconsciously angry himself, but he would never succumb to evil or the Dark Arts… or would he? Rí needs enemies as much as he needs friends, and Slytherins are especially encouraged to make him their nemesis.
Further, given Rí’s predisposition to academia and the prospect of high grades, he needs a few people who may be morally and emotionally indifferent to him, yet studiously just so happen to wish him dead. Rí thrives on, and is energised by, academic competition, à la Hermione Granger from the Potter era. He isn’t a Ravenclaw for nothing… Anyone want to take up the challenge?
[/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] iv. a chance at romance
[you here?]
Rí’s crowning glory experience at Hogwarts, and the one that turned him bitter, was a breakup in fifth year. Now, two years later, he hates men with a passion, having built a fortress around his heart that is stronger than the power of any Otherworldly spell. But, deep down, past the great walls, lies a desire to find someone to be with, to care for, and to love. Rí doesn’t succumb to invitations on dates easily ... But will you change that?
NB: Anyone fifteen or above (this includes young professors ... heh ...) is particularly welcome in this category. [/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] v. and the rest of the world
[you here?]
Life isn't limited to friends, enemies, and lovers. If it were, we would be living in Tudor England and I would be walking around with uncomfortable burgundy tights on and one of those poufy neck things that King Henry VIII wore in every one of his portraits...
Likewise, Rí needs some spice and eventful quirk in his life that isn't represented by friends, enemies, or lovers. Chuck something at me and let's make our character spar, cry together, chat, walk side by side, or just pass in the hallway with no dialogue needed... [/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] vi. what you'll need to do
Just reply with a 50x50 icon of your character and tell me how you'd stir things up in Rí's little world. =) [/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] [/center]

andrew james cauldwellI suppose you could say that Andrew is boring in comparison to Riley. :L Andy seems to be the stereotypical 'nice guy' that I always end up making and so his interesting elements are usually hidden until he gets thrown into a plot. I imagine he and Rí would talk on occasion but I doubt they'd be extremely close. Acquaintances on good terms? I suppose they'd be colleagues too in the sense that they're both prefects. riley blake mclaggenI imagine a logical place to start would be with Riley's house. As Ríoghnán isn't all that fond of Slytherins, the most plausible relationship for these two would appear to be on the enemies side of the fence. Though Riley likes to read himself, he's not all that keen on the super smart students and so would find Rí somewhat irritating. Perhaps Riley could be that academic competitor you spoke of? He would be determined to prove geeks aren't everything, whether stereotypical or not, and make it his personal goal to do better than Ríoghnán. Will that be easy? Probably not. Though Riley doesn't pay all that much attention in lessons, he's quite smart and can do very well in his academic achievements. So to summarise, some general dislike and academic competition?

Oooh, I like this... let's see...
*
Andrew: Hmm. You could start a thread in Andrew’s comfort zone somewhere (excl. the Hufflepuff areas of the castle) and Rí could catch him somewhere and be overwhelmed and set aback by his niceness? I’m thinking some kind situation to do with prefect duties… Let me know what you think.
Otherwise… well, I just started a random open thread in the clock tower with Rí smoking by himself and letting his otherworldly half out (he turns into a banshee, think that episode of Charmed when Phoebe turns into a banshee because of her emotional pain – in short, I’m too experimental for my own good sometimes).
Back story to this all is that Rí had an ex-boyfriend from fifth year and is still bitter over it, even though he masks the pain. That’s a bit of plot in and of itself, so if Andrew’s nice enough to be wandering around the castle late at night and happens to stumble upon Rí post-otherworldly episode, and has an ear to lend him, we can make a long-ass, improved therapy thread out of that.
*
Riley: Interesting. I like the sound of Riley… He clashes very blatantly with Rí in almost every way. Rí is level-headed (except for the banshee episodes), calm, rational, and respectable… yet Riley is happy being an unpleasant prick. As I said above, I’ve started a random thread in the clock tower, BUT…
Rí’s place of solitude will be moving from there to another place… I’m thinking maybe somewhere near the Quidditch pitch. Not directly in the stands or on the pitch itself, but in the areas surrounding the stadium. So that would be on Riley’s ground and not Rí’s… cause for conflict, anyone? This could be a conflict of anything… ideologies, values, the extent to which Riley loves to fuck and Rí prefers a long-term commitment, house differences, academic grade differences…
This in turn could cross over to the classroom setting too… It wouldn’t be an absolute, all-powerful rivalry (that’s meant for Rí’s ex… who I’ll put up for request shortly). But it would be quite a strong one? Let me know…

andrew james cauldwellI think throwing Andrew into your current thread would be the easiest option, simply because nothing springs instantly to mind that would fit your first suggestion. It seems plausible for Andy to have been walking around on prefect duty or something and then check if Rí's alright after witnessing his little 'outburst'. I'll get onto that reply as soon as I've finished this post and found something to eat. riley blake mclaggenWith some ready made discord already set in place, Riley would definitely get a little territorial about the Quidditch pitch as he'd see no reason for Ríoghnán to be there. Of course, he has no official rights to the pitch either but he'd enjoy having another reason for them to not get along. I think Riley would taunt him at every opportunity about nothing in particular. He wouldn't be able to understand the appeal of a long-term relationship (though he might end up with a hint of such understanding if/when the first of his character requests is filled) and would most likely jibe at Rí about only being that way because he can't get any sex. So yes, a fairly strong dislike that could probably be avoided if Riley wasn't so eager to be unpleasant to him.

Oscar Dylan VanceI think if Oz was the same age as Rí, I would've had to tweak his character because they'd be just too similar. As it stands I feel like Oscar probably sees a lot of himself in Rí and possibly has a soft spot for him. Oz will probably try to spark up conversations about runes or bug Rí into showing him Otherworld magic. I don't know, like the sort of friendship you have with a teacher who's young enough to be cool but old enough to know they're not. (He's the librarian, I realise I didn't mention that. His profile's over here if you want to know more, or you can of course just ask.) What do you think?
